Testimonials

Learning Mandarin is a daunting task but Wendy makes it easy and quite enjoyable. She has superior teaching skills and a fantastic ability to relate to people and the challenges that accompany this language. Wendy is also very creative when explaining complex concepts and has a great curriculum that combines classroom exercises with reading and games. Our class is very dynamic as Wendy is great at keeping students motivated and engaged. She has extensive knowledge of Chinese culture and knows the intricate details of Chinese life. It is great to discuss topics related to language, people and culture in her class. Even though learning Mandarin might be intimidating, Wendy makes the classes fun and interesting. I highly recommend Wendy as a Mandarin instructor to anyone who is considering learning this language.

I have been aspiring to learn to speak Mandarin for more than six years and over the course of those years have had many teachers (at local community centers, schools, colleges, online), all quite good and some with over 50 years teaching experience! I count Wendy among the best. What stands out for Wendy is her ability to teach effectively while adapting to the varied needs of the class. She is able to keep the learning process challenging, fun and interesting. I would endorse her for any Mandarin teaching forum, from company or group classes to 1:1 tutoring.

Wendy is an excellent teacher. Under her tutelage, it is easy to learn highly difficult concepts because she takes the time to break it down into layman’s terms, and explains the root meaning of word parts so that you can correlate with other words you have learned. Wendy does not hesitate to repeat content as necessary and she adjusts the pace so that the class is able to keep up, while keeping it relevant and entertaining for all of us. My progress in learning this complex language is primarily due to Wendy’s instruction techniques.

Wendy makes learning Mandarin fun, interesting and relevant. Wendy has helped me significantly improve my Chinese language skills and a very short time frame, and I am now confident that I will be able to communicate well in Chinese this next year. A very professional teacher that motivates me to get results.

Wendy Tan provides Mandarin language courses on-site at Microsoft. I have taken several sessions at beginning levels. As a linguist who has studied many languages over the years, I found Wendy’s teaching methods to be effective for a wide variety of students. She also manages the challenges of teaching to very busy professionals well. I particularly like her flexibility in adapting first year materials for professionals in the computer industry, providing vocabulary that we can use in working with our colleagues in China as we develop our Mandarin skills. Wendy is also a very hardworking and dynamic woman. She has a true entrepreneurial spirit and I can recommend her both as a language instructor and as a business woman.

I’ve been studying Mandarin with Wendy as part of Microsoft’s CHIME Chinese Program. Wendy is a fantastic instructor in the program; she is fluent in Mandarin as well as in English. Her classes are always full of interactive activities, which makes them engaging and provides a better learning environment thru practice. I really feel that she cares about her students, and I’d recommend her without hesitation to anyone wanting to study Mandarin.

I have studied Mandarin Chinese under Wendy for several years at Starbucks Coffee Company as part of our China Club education program. Wendy is able to connect with and inspire all age and skill levels, and she continually brings fresh approaches to keep our interest and participation. She works one-on-one to ensure our learning needs are addressed and we gain an appreciation for Chinese culture while learning the basic speaking, reading and writing skills. I can’t recommend Wendy highly enough and look forward to continue to learn from her.

“The Perfect Way to Learn Mandarin”

Six years ago, when my son was 5, I went on my first work trip to Beijing. While I was there, I decided he needed to learn Mandarin and contacted Wendy (who I found online) immediately I got back. 6 years on, I couldn’t be happier. Alex continues to progress and loves his lessons. Wendy is wonderful, patient, and an amazing teacher Alex loves her, as does the whole family–including our dog.

“Great for Homeschoolers”

My teenager son has been taking classes with Wendy for 3 years. He really enjoys her teaching style and has advanced in his understanding of both the written and spoken language quite quickly.

“Excellent instruction in Mandarin”

When I took a job that had me traveling to China several times a year, I decided to start learning Mandarin and found Wendy (who runs Mandarin Experts) on Craigslist. Since then — more than two years ago — I’ve really enjoyed our weekly 1-on-1 classes and have learned a ton. Wendy has been really flexible and tailored her teaching to match my free time and level of commitment, and we use a combination of textbooks and informal conversation. She’s happy to answer my questions about food, culture, specialized vocabulary, or anything else, and also organizes local meetups with other students.

Learning Mandarin has really improved my relationship with our vendors in China, as well as my quality of life when I travel. I’m much more comfortable navigating public transportation, night markets, restaurants, etc. and I have more fun adventures than I would without the language.

I wholeheartedly recommend Mandarin Experts for learning Chinese!

“Great Results”

I hired Wendy to learn Mandarin. She provided private lessons for about 1 year prior to my first trip to China. Wendy speaks both Mandarin and English fluently, which made learning the language much easier, allowing me to converse with people while in China without needing a translator. If you need either Chinese translation services or language lessons, Wendy should be your top choice.

“Experts & High Integrity”

Wendy Tan is a very good mandarin teacher. I used her services for private lessons. Wendy is both personable and professional. She is a native Chinese speaker, with professional teaching training, and experience. In addition she is USA College educated giving her great command over the English language too. She is serious about helping her students to learn, and creates a fun environment to do so. I recommend Wendy without hesitation for teaching, interpretation, or translation needs.
